wasps

We have discovered due to me being stung yesterday evening that we have a wasps nest in our post box.
I have been to Our Marie for advice and she suggested using a spray and also gave me a number of someone who maybe able to help.
Due to their been quite afew I think it would be impossible in case they swarm.
Apparently pompiers no longer help.
Does anyone have any advice that may help.

Re: wasps

There are indeed spray-bombs which shoot a stream of wasp-toxic liquid from several meters away. I actually brought one from the USA, but I'm pretty sure I've seen them in stores here--I protected myself with an old bee-keeper's veil, but that really did not seem to be necessary. We had a nest in our eaves, and I had to climb up a tall ladder to access their nests--it worked, but the vapors from the spray may have caused our dog to have a brief seizure, so I'd be careful about it. After the wasps were dead, I plugged up the chink in the masonry which had been their doorway, and in the seven years since, we've had no more problems with them.

Re: wasps

The Raid stuff in the supermarkets is very good. The one in the black spray can for guepes and frelons.

I think there is a good time to spray it but I can't remember as its a few years since we used it on the frelons. It is virtually instantaneous.

Re: wasps

Use the spray in the evening, as the wasps all come home for the night. That way you won't get any distraught relatives left, bent on revenge.

Re: wasps

We had a small wasps nest on our greenhouse. Judicious application of a paint scrapper knocked it down, the wasps flew off, and I crushed the remains of the nest. Job Done!

Re: wasps

The paint-scraper technique has much to recommend it, ecologically.....the chemical warfare approach may be necessary, though, when the nest is inaccessible.
