Roadside Advertising Signs

We own a property with land either side of a D road. Someone has erected a sign advertising his business near the road. He made no attempt to contact us prior to erecting the sign. It is more than a meter from the road and so I think it is on our land. It is a great big thing - 1.2m x0.75m - which irritates us constantly. Any advice on this problem would be appreciated. Sad

It might be an idea to ask your mayor about what you can do about it; they seem to be the fount of all knowledge and may know the people who have erected it. Do you know where your geometre marks are for your boundary? We have bits of red-painted sticks stuck in the ground marking our boundary, for instance, that might make your position clearer.

Re: Roadside Advertising Signs

If it's on your land you can take it down and if it's not on your land, it must be on the verge, so you can complain to the marie.

It might be worth speaking to the owner of the advertised business first since it may just have been put up in the wrong place. If they give you no joy speak to the Marie to confirm the position of the sign. Then take it down and tell them to collect it (unless the Marie OK'd it, then make a formal complaint to get it moved).

Alternatively just take it down and bin it, which on reflection is what I'd probably do since it's the least amount of hassle. I doubt anyone will complain since it most likely shouldn't be there and if they do just shrug and say you are glad that it is gone.

I'd also be tempted by Dave's alternative solution (so American!), without further ado. If you complain first to the mairie, you'd be high(er) on the list of Likely Suspects.

Thanks for the advice folks, I think I'll contact the marie and get some advice there.

Re: Roadside Advertising Signs

We contacted the owner of the sign and met him on site. Finally he saw our point of view and repositioned his sign on the corner of the road away from our property.
A great result.

Thanks again for your advice.
