Welcome to the forum - a family of helpful folk.
I agree, some great countryside on the Allier/Creuse border. We try to get down to the Boussac area as often as possible.
Some friends have just returned with a trailer full of apples, sweet chestnuts and walnuts many donated by the neighbours. The family had a very enjoyable 2 weeks.
best wishes
Mike

Anyone else live around here? Its very rural I've heard thee are quite a few brits around but haven't met many as yet!
Hello,
We are moving just outside Jarnages, which is fairly close to Gueret. The hamlet is so small, it's not even on the map, but named Chatelus. We are working on our mortgage right now.

Hello,
I'd like to introduce myself. I'm really excited that my partner found an English-language forum to help us with our move to the Creuse. We are in the process right now of obtaining our mortgage. We will be living in a small hamlet called Chatelus, there are 2 of them but ours is close to Jarnages. It'd be great to meet other English speakers once we are settled in, and exchange books, and trade tips. Our French is not very good currently but I am told once you're there you learn quickly.

Hi Chris,
Sorry I should have clarified, I am not Dutch but American. I moved to Holland to be with my Dutch partner, but found that space is an issue and the housing is quite expensive. We also both love the mountains and France has plenty!

Hi Barbi, last year we bought a house (well, sort of house) 3km west of Jarnages at Les Chezeaux, close up to the N145. Its not habitable yet but slowly getting there, we hope to be holidaying in it next year. Can't see your hamlet, what is the 'next size up' village from you?

Hello!
We are about 4 miles southeast of Jarnages. Our tiny hamlet is not even on the map! It's only like 6 houses or something. We will be living in France permanently. Our home is habitable but needs work, it will be slow as moving and paying the down payment will take most of our money. I'm so glad I found this site for help as we will need good deals on furniture and kitchen stuff etc.

Hi Barni
It sounds as if you aren't too far from us, too. We are a couple of miles north of Chenerailles. It's a fantastic area and we love it. There's a Chatelus in our commune but I don't think it's "yours". We wish you the best of luck! Let us know if you need any practical help.
Annik
PS: I've just tried to find you on Georportail but can't! Could you say where is the nearest named hamlet?

Hi Barbi
Found you now on Geoportail! 2 km east of Cressat, just west of the 'Etang de la Tour'.
So you will probably get (friendly) visitors after you have moved in!

That's awesome that you found me! We truly are in the middle of nowhere, it took us a long time to find a house that secluded. I plan on getting a kitchen as soon as possible, right now there's just a sink. The owners took everything, the stove, the couch, whatever odds and ends there were. They didn't even leave a crumb for the mice! I love to cook and would enjoy having you lovely folks around for dinner!
I have my e-mail public if anyone wants to chat with me.

Hi Annik,
The person below has found us! Our house is in the hamlet called Chatelus but I myself can't find it on the map. It's at the end of a dirt road and has fields on most sides. I love to drive, though, and anyone who is within an hour or so of us I'd be more than happy to come and meet up once we are living there.
I will have practical questions soon, the first thing we need to do is re-wire the house or otherwise my partner may have troubles with his computer. Also there is no internet there so I think we need to look into satellite options maybe? Internet is our first priority, otherwise he can't work. If anyone has any internet advice or how to choose an electrician that speaks a bit of English, please share.

Hi Barbi,
You are only about 45 mins from us. (just south of Auzances.)
If anyone is interested Google maps will find you @ '46.14323,2.14074'
I am an electrician but don't work in France so can only advise, if you have the means to do a bit of DIY.
We are next over 13th August.

Hi Barbi
Try Steve (English) at www.lce23.com for electrics (might know about broadband too). He's 4 miles the other side of Jarnages.

Hi,
We have a place just outside Moutier-Malcard. Found in Apr 2008 finally bought the following November and needs lots of work. We get over for a week every 3 months and have done everything ourselves so far (except sandblasting oak beams) so slow progress. Hope to move there from Devon in a year or so.
Gathering quotes for fosse at moment, not going to do that myself ! lol.
If you spot a red VW van wandering around....that's us. I'ts often in the brico carpark in La Chatre, I think we have shares in the place now!
EDITED....I meant 2008, never could trype.

Hi Adey,
My man is not versed in elecrics enouigh to do it himself, even with advice. He can put a lamp in the ceiling with some wires but that's about it. It's really important that we have good electrics so that he can work n his computer, so I am a bit nervous about it. The inspection done revealed some anomolies, although it works for now.
If you hear of anyone in the future, please do keep us in mind. We have to be sure that they are competent and trustworthy so a referral is great.

Hi Patrick,
Just scrolled up and saw this, we've never bought a house before and now we are moving to a foreign country on top of that so understandably a bit stressed about all of the "newness". I'll have a look at the site, Cheers!
