Pont Noir is the name of a house that I was going to buy but did not. I registered the domain name anyway because I thought that it was unique and easy to remember and not tied to any one place in particular. Even though it isn't directly related the La Creuse I thought it would work well for this site.

No. Pont Noir is essentially advert free. There are certain exceptions to this rule and these can be found in the Advertising Policy, however no direct paid advertising will ever be placed on Pont Noir.

On the left side (<-- that way) of the screen Select My Account in the User Info box,
then select My Avatar in the My Account Tools box,
then click on the Gallery button. This will show the new list of Avatars.
Select the one that you want, then scroll down to the bottom of the list and click Select Avatar,
then click on the Save Changes button and you are all set.

If you wish to change your email address for some reason, you can do so in the registration details page of your profile. You will need to enter your password to confirm that it is your account.

If your business is located and registered in the Creuse then yes you can have an entry in the Directory. This service has no charge. The rules for the Directory can be seen here.

To place an entry in the Directory you must first sign-up as a member. This is free. After that go to the Directory section, click on "Submit New Entry" and fill in the details of your business. Once submitted your entry will be reviewed and, if accepted, will appear in the directory shortly.

Some mail services (such as Hotmail and Yahoo) seem to classify the activation message as SPAM. If you have set your options to delete junk mail immediately then the activation message may have been deleted before it arrived in your inbox. First, look in your junk mail or bulk folder, but if there is no activation message, then please email the Site Admin with the username that you entered when signing up. If you don't activate the account within 7 days it will be deleted and you will need to sign up again. To stop email from Pont Noir being classed as junk mail you should add pontnoir.com to your safe list.

It is hard to please everyone. If you disagree with something on this site, or something someone else has written in the forums, then email the Site Admin and an administrator will look into it. Posters are responsible for their own content. Defamatory, racist, sexist and other mostly offensive posts will be removed as soon as possible. Pont Noir is an inclusive site and aims to provide content that is inoffensive and suitable for family reading. Our forums are moderated to reflect this goal. Other people's opinions may not be the same as yours; that's just everyday life and you can't expect the whole world agree with you, but please remember that neither flaming nor trolling are accepted here.

Pont Noir is not used to make money, but is a community website. There are no premium services or paid memberships. Pont Noir does not solicit donations of any kind. No contributors are paid and content or space on the site can not be bought.

This site has been designed for a resolution of 1280x1024 with 32bit colour (or better) using the Firefox browser. The site is tested with lower specifications and also with Internet Explorer and it all works, but with smaller screens, the layout appears a little squashed.

Private Messages are not email. They are not actually sent anywhere but are just recorded in the Pont Noir database. Messages in your outbox mean only one thing - that the person you have written the message to has not yet read it. Once a PM has been read then it moves from the outbox to the sentbox. If you delete a message in your outbox it is like you never sent it (the person to whom you sent it will never see it). Deleting messages from any other folder (inbox, sentbox, savebox) will only remove your copy of the PM and not that of the other person.
